the longbow, by it's very name, is "longer" not just in literal dimensions of the weapon but in range. to propel an arrow farther than it's shorter counterparts, the string must produce more torque. to do this, the string must exert more force on the bow itself. reproduction longbows from the middle ages (robin hood etc) take a LOT of muscle draw, so it would take me longer to draw release knock a new arrow and draw again then it would on a shorter bow.

what i'd like to know is why bows are variable seemingly for a hint of realism when melee weapons arent (if they indeed arent). a little spatha would be a lot easier to swing than a longsword or a fellblade.

I'd have to agree since the Gladius was the weapon of choice by the powerful Romans. Quick thrusting actions much faster than a slashing swing from the sides. I too believe just like bows each type of sword/axe also has a different swing speed, though very miniscule within miliseconds of each other. Since I now have a Gladius and a Longsword am going to test the number of swings not hits, because sometimes you "miss".

I have noticed sometimes I get a double swing in an attack and then back to a regular swing. Not sure if this is just for animation purposes though because I've never noticed more than one damage number even when I swing twice real fast (without using any skills).

I'd agree though something like slow, slower, fast, faster and fastest like Diablo 2 would be great new stats to add to weapons that drop. And these would be salvageable so we could all eventually have fastest in all our weapons. lol I guess it ends up about the same that way also either 1.33 for them or fastest for them. Makes weapons of different types nothing more than cosmetics then, much like the armor, which basically just makes the game more dull and boring.

So different types of weapons are just for cosmetics?

So spending 15k on armour is just to get higher detailed armour... and my first (& only!) gold fellblade drop; was so excitied that i have the biggest sword and its the same as a tribal blade..?! hmm.

Doesnt a longer blade stike a foe at a longer distance? (handy if they are a feeling chimp)

So why make bows different?

aNet & NCSoft should be hung... but with a silk rope because the game is so good!

Don't worry guys, I suspect variations between different sword types is something that'll be introduced in a future update. If you think about it, there's A LOT more variations in swords than there is in bows, so if you counted all the different axes and hammers too it would probably quadruple the amount of different weapons in the game! If I worked for Anet I'd consider that a coding nightmare, especially if each type were to have a slightly different strike distance!

the game is nearly perfect, i'd hate to see a bunch of bugs stem from people crying about wanting this sword to attack .002% faster than that sword. other than guild wars i play the battlefield series so i'm all too familiar with companies trying to pour a gallon of code into a quart-glass of game coughcoughelectronica-holescoughcough.
